‘Wind power is about the most stupid way of generating electricity you could possibly imagine. It is an environmental eyesore and an affront, it is heavily subsidised, it produces very expensive electricity even when the wind is blowing but of course the wind is only blowing at an adequate speed something like 25% of the time so you have to have back up power for that and it is absolutely crazy.’ Lord Lawson, former Chancellor and Conservative peer – 5.2.2012 MURNAGHAN SKY NEWS

We are now awaiting the planning application for the giant 332ft (101m) turbine at Alscott farm – to give you an idea of the size, the Fullabrook turbines outside Barnstaple are 337ft (103m).  We are talking really big here.  As a result, your committee has been very busy planning how we will oppose this, once the application goes in.  Unfortunately, the recent Landscape Character Assessment Guidance identifies Shebbear and the surrounding parishes as being highly suitable for wind turbine developments.  We want to make this area as unfriendly to these inappropriate developments as we can.  Even if Alscott farm is not close to you, it will set a precedent – if one goes in, many more are likely to follow and those may well be close to your home.

A big thank-you to everyone who supported our Wine & Wisdom in January.

We hope everyone had as much fun on the night as we did.
